Who needs a visitor visa?

Cameroonian citizens need a temporary resident visa, commonly called a visitor visa, to enter Canada as tourists, to visit family or for a short business stay. The application is made online with IRCC.

What the visa officer checks

The officer must be satisfied that you will respect the conditions of your stay and leave Canada at the end of it. They look in particular at:

  • the purpose of the trip and how it fits your profile;
  • your financial means to cover the trip and the stay;
  • your ties to Cameroon: job, business, family, property;
  • your previous travel;
  • the invitation letter, if you are visiting a relative.

Documents usually requested

  • a valid passport;
  • IRCC forms completed online;
  • bank statements and proof of income;
  • an employment and leave certificate, or your business registration;
  • the invitation letter and your host’s documents, if applicable;
  • an itinerary and provisional bookings;
  • your photos and biometrics.

The exact document checklist is generated by the IRCC portal based on your situation.

Application steps

  • review of your profile and of the purpose of the trip;
  • preparation and check of the file;
  • online submission and payment of the official fees;
  • biometrics at a visa application centre (VAC);
  • follow-up until the decision, then sending your passport for the visa to be affixed.

Mistakes that lead to refusal

  • bank statements showing a large, unexplained deposit just before applying;
  • a vague purpose of travel, or one that does not match the length of stay;
  • information that differs from one document to another;
  • falsified documents: this is misrepresentation, which can lead to a five-year ban.

What FTGroup does for you

  • a review of your profile and chances before any expense;
  • a check of every document and of the consistency of your file;
  • help writing your letter of explanation;
  • preparation for your biometrics appointment;
  • your flight ticket and travel insurance once the visa is issued.

Frequently asked questions

Canada visitor visa : your questions

How long does a Canada visitor visa take?

Processing times vary by period and country of residence; IRCC publishes up-to-date times on its website. Apply several weeks, or even a few months, before your travel date.

Is an invitation letter mandatory?

It is not mandatory for tourism, but it is strongly recommended if you are visiting family or friends in Canada.

Can I work with a visitor visa?

No. A visitor visa does not allow you to work in Canada: you need a work permit for that.

I was refused before: can I apply again?

Yes. You first need to understand the reasons for the refusal, then fix the weaknesses of the file before applying again. We can review your refusal letter with you.

Is the visa guaranteed?

No, the decision belongs to IRCC. We help you submit a clear, complete and consistent application.

FTGroup is a facilitator: we help you prepare, check and follow up your file, working with external specialists when needed. We are not a visa agent, a lawyer or a regulated immigration consultant, and no visa is guaranteed: the decision belongs solely to the authorities of the country concerned. Rules change often: always check the latest information on the official websites above.
